Objective

The objective of this study was to evaluate emerging trends and market opportunities in condensate management systems, with a focus on condensate drains and oil-water separators (OWS). The study aimed to identify adoption drivers, buying barriers, customer expectations and regional differences shaping demand across major industrial markets.

The Challenge

Condensate management rarely becomes a priority until something goes wrong. But once compliance, discharge risk, or downtime enters the picture, decisions escalate quickly. The category also behaves differently across regions, which makes it hard to create one clear growth plan.

Key challenges included:

  1. Regulatory Variation Standards and enforcement differed by geography and sometimes even within the same region, creating uncertainty in how buyers evaluate solutions.
  2. Fragmented Buying Journeys The market involved many suppliers, inconsistent claims and strong distributor influence, which often shaped what customers saw and trusted.
Our Approach

We treated condensate management demand as a behaviour and buying signal, not a product-spec discussion.
Here’s how we did it:

  1. Regional Interviews Conducted qualitative interviews across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific (including and excluding SEA) and MEA.
  2. Channel Perspectives Spoke with both manufacturers and distributors to capture supply-side intent and channel-side reality.
  3. Adoption Mapping Mapped adoption drivers, purchase friction and buyer expectations across industrial environments.
  4. Regional Comparison Compared regional differences in regulation pressure, cost sensitivity and channel influence.
  5. Whitespace Discovery Identified competitive white space and unmet needs shaping product, partnership and go-to-market choices.
The Outcome

The study gave a clearer picture of why demand is rising, where adoption slows down and what buyers actually want beyond “a unit that works.” It helped separate compliance-led demand from operations-led demand, highlighted the role distributors play in shaping repeat installations and clarified where fragmentation creates space for stronger, more trusted players to scale.
